Genies Avatar SDK Jam Recap: Changing Identities

2026/01/13

For the end of 2025, we hosted the first game jam for our Genies Avatar SDK for Unity, inviting developers to explore the theme Changing Identities. Participants built playable Unity game prototypes centered on avatar customization, player identity, and character-driven mechanics using our free SDK.

The goal was simple: build a game using the Genies Avatar SDK to create player-avatar focused experiences. Developers leveraged high-fidelity avatars, the Avatar Editor for face, body, and clothing customization, and persistent inventory features to experiment with gameplay that integrates identity, progression, and personalization.

Winners & Project Spotlights

🏆 Blend In — by Deezaath

Blend In is a fast-paced outfit-matching game where players quickly change their avatar’s outfit to match a rotating theme. Each round survived grants XP, which can be used to permanently unlock new outfits. The focus is on speed, recognition, and progression through avatar customization.

🥈 Fashion Club — by Yamato (PandarenStudios)

Fashion Club is a social, narrative-driven experience where players adjust their avatar’s outfit to meet the expectations of different characters in order to progress. The objective is to navigate social interactions successfully by presenting your avatar in ways that fit each scenario.

🥉 Auto Mech Arena — by revolverolver

Auto Mech Arena is a strategy-focused game where players customize their mech’s weapon and playstyle, then watch it automatically battle against opponents. Players experiment with different weapons and distance preferences, refining their setup as they observe each battle’s outcome.

🎖 Identity Crisis — by austine

Identity Crisis is a time-based exploration game where players race through a forest collecting hidden “Identity Boxes.” Each box instantly opens the Genies Avatar Editor, allowing players to customize their avatar’s outfit before continuing. The goal is to find all boxes as quickly as possible while adapting your avatar mid-run.

Looking Ahead

This jam gave us a valuable look at how developers approach avatar-centric gameplay. From outfit-matching mechanics to social and exploration-based interactions, each project explored changing identities in its own way.

We’re continuing to iterate on the Genies Avatar SDK based on what we saw during the jam, and we’re excited to support more developers as they build, test, and ship avatar-driven experiences. This jam was just one step in Genies’ ongoing effort to collaborate with developers and the wider game development community.
