GENIES, INC. CLOSES FUNDING ROUND AND LAUNCHES NEXT GENERATION DIGITAL CLONES

Company completes $3 million funding round led by notable investors

Launches New App with Smart Emojis that Change Based on Current Events

LOS ANGELES, CA (December 5, 2017) – Genies, Inc. (“Genies”) today announced the closing of an additional $3 million in funding, valuing the Company at over $100 million. The Company also announced the launch of its new mobile app Genies, which allows users to create personalized expressive emojis that react to relevant daily happenings – ranging from breaking news to cultural holidays to personal life events — in real time.

Powered by the Company’s [proprietary] animation AI platform, a user’s Genie reacts to events by changing its expression, mood, outfit, accessories, environment and props. The app is preloaded with hundreds of thousands of body, facial and style combinations for users to create mini clones of themselves and then interact with their friends’ Genies. Users also have the option to add friends into their “scene”. Genies can be shared via iMessage, Facebook Messenger, Instagram direct message, Snapchat and SMS.

“Genies is a new type of media company that is simplifying the way people consume and share news by creating a unique medium of infotainment,” said Akash Nigam, CEO of Genies. “We are thrilled to launch this innovative product and to welcome an experienced and engaged group of new investors to our family.”

The latest funding round was led by Shawn Mendes and existing investor Russel Westbrook, and includes investments from Macro Ventures, Adrian Fenty, Andrew Gertler, Ndamukong Suh, the Attanasio family office, Todd Perry, Mickey Segal, Cameron Dallas, Jake Paul, and Charles King. Genies’ current roster of investors includes NEA, CAA Ventures, Foundation Capital and Thomas Tull.

“I’m excited to be working with the Genies team and look forward to changing the way the world gets and interacts with news,” said global music star and Genies investor, Shawn Mendes. “We hear constantly that Millennials are not interested in traditional media and we believe this new form of infotainment will transform the way our users interact with current events.”
