Bring Your Genie Avatar to VR with the Genies SDK

The world of extended reality (XR) is always evolving, and Genies is committed to making avatar integration seamless, powerful, and ready for the next generation of virtual experiences. We’re excited to introduce the Genies SDK VR Example, a Unity project that demonstrates the integration of the Genies and Meta SDKs, specifically tailored for the Meta Quest 3.

This example project isn't just a demo! It's a template designed to give developers a massive head start in bringing high-fidelity, expressive Genies avatars into their XR applications.

Key Unlocks for Developers

Integrating complex avatar systems into VR can be challenging, but our SDK example tackles the toughest problems head-on, providing essential features pre-configured and ready to use:

  • VR Optimized Login System: Leverages Genies’ secure login mechanisms with a user interface specifically configured for optimal readability and interaction within a VR environment.

  • Seamless Character Retargeting: Features pre-configured character retargeting, essential for mapping the user’s movement onto the avatar. This is set up to work exceptionally well with the unique rigging and structure of Genies avatars.

  • Enhanced Immersion and Artifact Prevention: We’ve implemented a solution to hide the face and head geometry from the VR camera. This crucial step prevents the clipping artifacts and visual glitches that commonly occur when the user’s real headset position interacts with the avatar’s head model, maintaining high immersion.

  • Flexible Input Support: The system is configured to work with both hand tracking (for a controller-free, natural experience) and standard controllers, giving users the freedom to interact as they choose.

Beyond the Basics: Advanced XR Features

We didn't stop at the essential integration. This example project incorporates cutting-edge Meta features to deliver a truly full-body, immersive experience:

  • Full-Body Retargeting with Leg Pose Estimation: The project leverages Meta’s free, built-in full-body retargeting system. This includes advanced leg pose estimation, meaning that a user’s Genie avatar won't just float. It will accurately reflect the user's lower body movement, adding unprecedented realism to the virtual presence.

  • Instant Digital Identity: With the included Genies login integration, users can simply authenticate and instantly "become" their unique Genie avatar within your VR experience.

  • Support for Existing Creators: We are fully ready to support developers who have previously utilized Ready Player Me (RPM) and are looking to transition or expand their projects to integrate the powerful features of the Genies SDK.
